Pick a formation, read the theory first

The card grid above is what other managers have uploaded. If you're still deciding which shape suits your squad, start with the articles below: each formation bucket links to the guides that explain the role distribution, the trade-offs, and the antipatterns that quietly break it. Recent community uploads in each shape are listed underneath.

    4-3-3 tactics

Three-man midfield with a front three. Width comes from wide forwards or overlapping full-backs, depending on whether the wingers are inside-out or touchline-stretchers.

Double pivot, attacking ten, lone striker. The variant most FM saves default to because the pivot covers transitions and the AMC creates without exposing the back four.

    3-4-3 tactics

Three at the back with a front three rather than a strike pair. More aggressive than the 3-5-2 — the wide forwards pin the opposition full-backs high, at the cost of a lighter, more exposed midfield two in transition.
